Annual Meeting Reminder

Don't forget that the Association Annual Meeting will be on Saturday May 27th at 10am at the Township Hall in Wolverine.  All members are encourage to attend to voice their concerns and meet their neighbors.

Road News

I would like to thank Buford Sherman for our mid summer grading! It was much needed... In grading some larger fill stone was brought to the surface making the roads a little rough to navigate until the rain/mud packs them back down again. It is necessary to bring the loose dirt and gravel back into the center of the road where it used to be. If you find a larger rock please feel free to move it out if the roadway. We have some target areas we will be putting more gravel on in the near future. If you see an orange cone proceed with caution as there may be work in progress!
It has also been brought to my attention that someone is complaining that "my" road is the "best" one out here!
Let me set things straight!!!
Trillium trail is maintained by brad case and Brian bunker at their own expense with their own equipment! The last time WAEPOA put any money in this road mike brown was road commissioner and that was a long time ago! Waepoa does include trillium in the snow plowing but that is all!
Trillium will be getting gravel in the near future which is being paid for by the people who live on it...
It would be nice if people got all the facts before complaining to other owners!
We try and do the best we can with the money we do spend for WAEPOA. If you don't like what you see please feel free to run for an office!

Hello!

With the new signs at the front of the association I thought maybe this might attract some members that previously haven't visited our page.
My name is Barb Manrow and I live with my husband Ron on Wildlife Trail.  I have been hosting this blog page for many years.  It's a great place for neighbors to find out what is going on in WAEPOA.  I would love to include any information or pictures that you would like to share.  Unfortunately I can't open the comments section to everyone because we get a lot of unwanted spam but if you want to post something I would be happy to do so.  Just call me at home...231-525-9808 or email me at rbmanrow@hughes.net and I will update the page as quickly as I can.

Sad News

With a heavy heart we mourn the loss of our friend and neighbor Rick Deevers from wildlife trail who recently passed away. Our prayers and sympathy are extended to his wife Anita and his family. A memorial is being planned in the spring. Rick was a long time resident and past officer of WAEPOA and will be missed by many.

Winter has finally arrived with a vengeance in the northwoods...
Buford and his crew have been doing a great job and we are his first priority! Please give him and his plows the right of way when you encounter them on our roads. There seems to be some discord from a couple property owners expecting roads plowed (that no one resides on or wants plowed) just because they have $100 taken out of their taxes for road maintenance. Any new roads to be considered for plowing need to be discussed at our May meeting when the contract could be revised. Afterwards is too late for that year. Sorry folks
Our 2016 meeting is May 28 at 10am Nunda Twp hall in wolverine.

WAEPOA would like to say goodbye to our members Doug and Christy Schofield who sold their property back here on Buttercup recently. Doug was on our road commission and worked hard at keeping our roads and trees in good shape. Thank you for all that you did for WAEPOA.

Trouble with Beavers

The WAEPOA beavers are busy again threatening some of our roads again. We are working on the problem and ask people not involved to please leave the dams alone. If you have a concern please contact Vicki (pres) or one of the other officers. Thank you

First Winter Storm

Hope all our WAEPOA neighbors have a safe New Years and a great 2016!!! We have a solid 10" of snow on the ground and the snowmobile trails and local ski resorts are all open for those wanting to come up for the holiday! Our roads are open and the downed trees have been cut up and removed thanks to a few of our residents!
Please use caution when roads are icy and watch out for snowmobilers. If you have inexperienced riders/kids riding please advise them to ride on the sides of the roads with the traffic not against it. Stay safe and look out for the other guys...

Happy fall! 

Our fall road grading took place today and our roads are in good shape going into winter :)

Buford had a problem with a silver toyota forerunner racing around him and fish tailing in his Newley dragged roads...

"Some person" really needs to grow up! He depends on these roads too!

Also anyone deer hunting (or has company here hunting...) please be respectful of your neighbors property lines and also be mindful of just how far your bullet can travel!

Stay safe and post pictures of any deer taken in WAEPOA!!!

Sad News

Posted on Facebook by Vicki Reinhardt...Dear neighbors... It breaks my heart to post this but Mike Brown was our neighbor before he lost his battle with cancer and many of you knew him and his sons. Jonathon Brown and Timber were killed Saturday morning and Timber's mom Vickie is is serious condition! Jon was 26 and Timber was 12.

Annual Meeting

Posted by WAEPOA President Vicki Reinhardt on Facebook...Our annual meeting was today. A lot of our usual faces were missing this year. Hope everybody's doing ok! Met a few new ones as well. Covered a lot of topics. The minutes will be on the website in 30 days. Lori Curtis (bull run) is our new secretary. Thank you to Susan Hobbs for your years if service!!! I am still president, Bob Hobbs is still Vice President, George Havens is still treasurer And our road committee remains the same also. I would like volunteers for a by-law committee. Please get a hold if me and volunteer smile emoticon a by law proposal was passed out today and input is being collected and considered. Buford Sherman was awarded the snowplow contract for the next 3 years. He did a wonderful job this past winter and we thank Buford and Renee! Anyone needing their drives plowed this winter keep Buford in mind! I hope everyone has a wonderful year here in our association. Please drive respectfully on our roads and inform kids/guests that we pay to maintain our own roads so please don't tear them up with 4wheelers/motorcycles, etc... It only hurts us! Another concern brought to our attention was people trespassing during deer season not wearing orange! Anyone traveling roads here during rifle season on foot, 4wheeler need to dress responsibly! We don't want to see anyone hurt!!!

Meeting Details

The following was posted by President Reinhardt in a response to a question from a member on Facebook... Jim at this time we do not have anything pending a vote. Any officer position nominations will be from the floor that day as no one has expressed an interest in taking an office. For sure we have to elect a new secretary this year as Sue Hobbs is resigning. The current treasurer wanted to be replaced last year but nobody would step forward and take an office then. Our Vice President is willing to continue as vice again. If ANYONE would like to be president that office could open up real quick too... Since our one meeting a year is always the same weekend on Saturday at 10 those who wish to attend plan to be there or give someone permission to vote for them like in the past. It's the best we can do because of the cost of mailings and not having association dues being collected anymore to provide for the costs of maintaining this association. The road assessment put on our taxes is not the same as association dues for conducting association business. This will be be a topic at this years meeting as well as re-doing our outdated by-laws so we can conduct meetings with the few people who show up. Since these topics will require a vote and a mass mailing we decided not to send a spring newsletter. It's not possible to accommodate everyone's schedules so all we can do is what is best for the association.

Spring Letter

The following was posted on Facebook by President Vicki Reinhardt...It's starting to feel like spring in northern michigan but Mother Nature likes the last laugh... Property owners that weren't hardy enough to spend the winter are starting to "appear"!!! Watch for sightings... Lol Our annual meeting is May 23 at 10am at the Nunda Twp hall in wolverine. We decided not to send a spring newsletter and will be sending one after the meeting instead. We have a few things on the agenda that will require a vote afterward and we won't have to absorb the cost of postage twice by doing this. Please tell your neighbors about the meeting and to check out or website and Facebook. Hope to see everybody at the meeting! We are also accepting snowplow bids until may 15 if you know of anybody. Wintertime

Posted on Facebook by Vicki Reinhardt...Winter has arrived at WAEPOA! The road project on vinca and the fall grading are completed and we are hoping the beaver project on antler is done as well...have to wait and see with that one! The project at hand is trimming back branches and downed trees so the plow truck doesn't hit them. Please take the time to check your property's road frontage. Thanks! Antler and the Beavers

Posted by Vicki Reinhardt on Facebook...After several hours of work from mick bunker and the "beaver whispering backhoe" along with some neighborhood help we were able to tear out 2 beaver dams and get the water drained out... When the beavers showed up to see what was happening we were able to get 3 of them out as well! Brian Bunker then installed a new grate to keep debris out of the culvert. Now that the water is drained we can watch regularly for any new activity there. We had to act now before we lost the road and the culverts got plugged solid and we had to replace them as well..

Road Work Update

The vinca rd project is completed for this year to see how that works out for us The fall road grading is near completion and should be finished tomorrow! The beavers are busy again on antler and the road was quickly becoming flooded over so emergency measures needed to be taken to clear the culvert and drain the road... We will have to keep an eye on the beavers and culvert this winter! Thank you to mick bunker/bunker excavating for all their work! Also thank you to rocky reed and brownie for helping mick with traffic diversion and other help. Waepoa members are the best!!!

October Road Work

Posted on Facebook by Vicki Reinhardt: 5 1/2 hrs, 14 volunteer WAEPOA members, PIE&G to restore our power... Last tree took it out almost 60 trees removed today!!! Not a bad day! Next step now is getting rid of pile of trees by Rockys (free wood/you cut) and getting miss dig to flag phone/power lines then mick bunker can finish our road project. Thank you to everybody that helped today!!! Waepoa association has some pretty great members!!!

Message from the President

Vicki Reinhardt posted this update on the Facebook page............. Hello all! As summer comes to a close there is color starting to show in the trees already where WAS summer??? Our roads underwent a mid summer road grading by mick/Brian bunker with an actual road grader! They widened the places they could to make room for snow plowing this winter and they worked on road crowns. There was an informal meeting at my house in July for people that had concerns after our annual meeting and the vinca road project was discussed. There will be a work bee on The weekend of October 11 to cut/remove trees marked along vinca by some of the WAEPOA members. This will save us money that can then be put into the roads themselves instead if paying to cut trees too. Mick bunker was hired to do the job. Bids were requested from 2 other companies and after seeing our job were not interested in submitting one. I have letters from them staying that! After the trees are removed mr. Bunker will be removing stumps that need it, widening the roads and putting gravel where needed. Our goal is to work within our budget this year. Signs will be going up as work begins and roads may be temporarily closed while dropping/moving trees. Please bear with us during this process... By waiting until October we should miss the heavier summer traffic. Please let your neighbors know Have a safe holiday weekend!!! Thanks, Vicki

Clean Up Day

The Road Commission set Saturday October 11th 2014 as this year's official WAEPOA Clean Up Day. Any available members are encouraged to meet at 9:00 AM at Rocky Reed's (Rocky's Place on Vinca and Plum) with chain saws and tools (along with gloves and strong backs!)to take down overhanging branches along all the roads and any other maintenance that needs to happen before winter. Please pass this on to any neighbors that may not see this post and if you can't make it you can, of course, do any work yourself on your own road at any time. Most everything in the Association is done by your neighbors volunteering their time and equipment and that is what makes this such a special place! Hope to see you there!
